"There's a certain amount of kindness in the world, just as there is a certain amount of light. We cast a shadow on something wherever we stand, and it is no good moving from place to place to save things; because the shadow always follows. Choose a place where you won't do harm and stand in it for all you are worth, facing the sunshine." arwav

THIS Friday, Nov. 20th, The Jane Doe Project will be presented in the Wege Ballroom at 7pm. This is your chance to hear the stories of heroic Aquinas women who have been, or are related to, victims of sexual and physical abuse. Their perseverance and willingness to share their testimonies is what makes this production so powerful. Come and support these women, and the students that take the stage to tell their stories! Due to the nature of the subject-matter, we recommend that no children attend. Entrance is free, though donations will be greatly appreciated and go to benefit the YWCA's Help and Shelter unit.

Last Chance to See "Rent" at GVSU!
Posted on November 17, 2009 at 11:36 am under Arts and Entertainment | 24 views | No Comments »

Submitted by Daniel Brooks

After a completely sold out first weekend, there are only four more chances to see the Theatre at Grand Valley/Heritage Theatre Group production of "Rent" at the Louis Armstrong Theatre on GVSU's Allendale campus.

The Grand Rapids Press says the show's "first rate" cast "delivered a potent and bracing rendering of a modern classic." From the "jubilant ensemble dancing on the tables in 'La Vie Boheme' to Tom Collins’ grief-stricken 'I’ll Cover You,' the music underscores both the joy and suffering of life."

Performances continue this weekend at 7:30 p.m. November 19, 20, 21, with a special late night performance on Friday, November 20, at 11 p.m. Tickets, available at the LAT Box Office, are $6 student, $12 faculty/alumni/staff; $14 general public. Call the Box Office at (616) 331-2300, for more information.

Jane Doe is Back!

Submitted by Nicole Caswell

After many calls for an encore after last year's breakout performance, the Jane Doe Project is coming back to the Aquinas Stage! Don't miss this last chance to see a multi-genre play written by our very own Aquinas senior Cheyna Roczkowski, with all Aquinas actresses, about experiences of Aquinas women, for its last perfomance on Aquinas College Campus! Be at the Wege Ballroom, THIS Friday, Nov 20th, by 7pm for the new and improved version of the piece. There's no ticket price, but donations to the YWCA would be gratefully accepted. Doors open at 6:30pm.

The subject-matter of the play is not recommended for young audience members, as it addresses the issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Counselors will be available to speak with at the play, if so desired.

If you miss this chance, plan on seeing the last performance to be held on Ferris State Campus in Big Rapids, on December 11th (also a Friday). Carpooling may be available, details forthcoming...
