The Nabataean Temple Archaeological Project is holding its first season of excavations in the Negev Desert of southern Israel from June 3rd until July 1st, 2010. There are 8-10 open positions for Aquinas College student volunteers. Students can either earn 3 credit hours as an HY 399 Independent Study in History course, or simply go for the sheer experience. No previous experience is required.

Students will be trained in field methodology, data collection, artifact processing and recording systems by professional archaeologists. There will also be weekend field trips to nearby archaeological sites. The project is working under a permit from the Israel Antiquities Authority, and is directed by Dr. Benjamin J. Dolinka (Department of History, Aquinas College), and Dr. Tali Erickson-Gini of the Israel Antiquities Authority. Each candidate will need to submit an application form and 2 letters of recommendation (one academic, one personal).

There is a $2500 fee to cover the costs of room-and-board and administrative expenses. The costs of tuition, flights (ca. $1,200-1,500), insurance and spending money are not covered by this fee. Deadline is January 29, 2010. For further information, contact:
